Sierra Leone’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Mamadi Gobeh Kamara leads Sierra Leone’s delegation to participate in this year’s 8th edition of the Dakar International Forum on Peace and Security in Africa.

The two days conference which starts today Monday, October 24th to Tuesday, October 25th is held at the Abdou Diouf International conference centre in Diamniado, outside Dakar, Senegal .

After seven editions organized between 2014 and 2021, the Dakar Forum has become an annual meeting attended by leaders and international actors involved in Africa’s development. Initiated by the President of the Republic of Senegal, H.E. Macky SALL, last year’s edition took place at the beginning of the post-COVID-19 era, as indicated by its theme “The challenges of stability and emergence in Africa in a post-COVID-19 world”.

This year’s 8th edition will focus on the theme, “Africa in the face of exogenous shocks: challenges of stability and sovereignty”.

During the two days, there will be high-level panel discussion followed by a series of plenary discussions looking at the strategic empowerment of the continent in the area of security, reforming the security sector in Africa; what answers to the capability challenges of the armed forces, what solutions to the expansion of violent extremism between collective approaches and national responses, community responses to stability challenges, global crises and sovereignty in Africa, cooperation between Africa and its partners in the fields of defence and security, place of the private sector in the construction of new sovereignties (energy, food, digital etc) in Africa and youth, citizenship and sovereignty-the challenges of education and training.

The other members of the Sierra Leone delegation are His Excellency Alhaji Brima Elvis Koroma, Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to Senegal, Mr. Aiah Edwin Mbawa, Director, Africa Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Major Cecilia Munu of the Republic of Armed Forces (RSLAF) Madam Aminata Kargbo, 2nd Secretary and Mr. Ishmael Bayoh, Information Attachė Sierra Leone Embassy in Dakar- Senegal respectively. Major Cecilia Munu who is the Gender and Equal Opportunity Staff Officer of the RSLAF will on Tuesday October 25th be among three others from Africa in a panel to discuss Measuring Opportunities for Women In Peace Operations.

Senegalese President, H.E. Macky Sall opened the conference which was attended by the Presidents of Angola -João Lourenço and Cape Verde, José Maria Neves, and the Prime Minister of Guinea Bissau ,Nuno Gomes Nabiam.
